How come white people love to tell racist jokes but can't take one themselves?

First I'm Asian-(American).

I was with a group of people telling racist jokes and we were all laughing. Of course, I heard all the racist ones against Asians, but I took it in stride. Then I told a joke about inbreeding whites and this white guy got incredibly upset. Why is this?

Because most white people were raised to think of themselves as the top of the food chain(if you know what i mean, lol) and therefore, they love to make fun of different people skin colors, but when someone points out to them that their pasty pale skin looks like chalk, they get pissed off...
My ex-friend used to make all these racist jokes about me being black and how my name isnt common and stuff, and at first I thought hewas just playing and I didn't take it seriously. Then one day, he really made me mad and I responded with some gay remark and he got really pissed off.... He started talking about how people shouldnt make racist remarks and stuff. and I told him I was only giving him a taste of his own medicine. He told the principal and I got detention.....
I'm not friends with him anymore because of that.... I suggest don't hang around people like that because they don't build up your self-esteem or make you a better person.

I gotta call your well-presented but poorly thought out response to your own question. A joke between friends is a joke between friends. And joke in a group of strangers should not involve religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation. As too your lower-to-no-damage on the high school popularity argument, well maybe you are just out of touch with the school and church shootings in the past few years. Show self respect when talking to your peers and you might receive respect from other social groups. Yes racism, bigotry, and plain hateful thinking are all horrible things, but making your own rules and hierarchies don't help the situation. Oh and wait, let me guess. . .you are going to throw that I am white and I wouldn't understand at me right? Here is an even better question than yours. Why is it when a racial slur is made about any other group there is a slap on the wrists but if a slur is made about African Americans/blacks we suddenly have city ordinances against the dreaded "n-word?" Okay guys no more of that but feel free to use c h i n k, s p i c, c u n t, or that beautiful bastardization of the word w h o r e that young people are so found of these days. No, I do not believe that the use of such words should actually be condoned but they are all just as hurtful. I am learning everyday that a little more self-respect results in a little less harassment from everybody else.

I think racist jokes are funny but some dont. Im white and love to hear white jokes. I dont care cause there are plenty of other jokes about blacks Asians and Hispanics. its good to be able to get along without gettin pissed about racial things. we are all human and thats the way it should be. he probably got pissed cause he is insecure. I mean come on they are just words! ooooo Big whoop!

Some people don't really like racist jokes. I don't like them either because they don't profit the listener. It doesn't encourage them or make them feel good about themselves and I find that words can either be blessings or curses.

Now something that is funny could be something that looks humours like a blooper or something funny that a person does. I like it when I can laugh with the person and they can laugh with me.

cause hes not "man" enough to take it in stride like u or me do... these people are so ignorant and obnoxious.... they cant take a practical joke either... and they call all the other countries poor or "third-world" countries, when really the third world countries are the countries that is making America a powerful country. White people cant make anything by them selves.. .thats why they send it to our countries like China or India....

Most white people can take them but then some people cant. Like some Asians liek them (i.e. u) but then some people dont. There just not smart enough to learn that its just a joke. I personally, love hearing rascist jokes about anybody and about whites even thoguh i am white, and i love making them. People just need to learn that its just a joke and GET OVER IT. And that if you can give them u need to learn to take them.

Because he hasn't evolved yet....he still thinks the white race is superior to the rest, which isn't true anymore....so I'd say he's a hater, he just can't take a joke, even though he is one! LOL

some white people think they are the top dogs and when you say a joke about it they think that:hey that really hurt me but they don't stop to think that they hurt other people too.so that's why and i hope that you're okay and i'm sorry that you were insulted.
