well it certainly hurts, that I am sure about! Being in a virginal state probably increases the pain, also. Being nervous makes it worse, you need to relax some, because being nervous makes everything tighter if you know what I mean. I can see shedding a tear or two from the pain and the stress.

However, screaming? Come on, suck it up and put on your big girl panties. Screaming should be limited to ER rooms after a certain age. The pain from the procedure is temporary, cancer is not. Practice meditation and breathing to help you through it.

I do not understand why you are getting a pap test at 19 tears old? Is there any medical reason; high risk factor in your family, abnormal periods that you are being examined? I did not have intercourse before I married, because I chose to be a virgin. Little did I know ,that it was physically impossible for me to have intercourse on my wedding night. My hymen was too thick for my new husband and I to let the normal course of events take place. When we returned home after two weeks from our honeymoon, I RAN to the Dr.s. I was told that i would have to have surgery for my hymen to be broken. You can imagine MY surprise.! Before I was married, I went to our family Dr. at the time (BIG MISTAKE)for an internal to make sure everything was okay. I had never had any female problems before, so my mom and I felt that our GP was fine. The internal was EXCRUCIATING!!!! The Dr. said I was fine, and that my husband should be the one to break through the hymen. It is a medical condition that happens, but not too often. After the surgery, it was 6 weeks until our marriage was consummated. My husband was very understanding and patient, we have been married for 23 years, great guy! BTW...I never did return to the original Dr. ever AGAIN! Sorry to be so detailed, but maybe you can relate to my medical history. Don't be afraid to ask your Dr. anything you have any concerns about.

Yes, It's Normal well kinda....I'm not sure about the screaming but shedding a tear or two i can understand especially if your are completely non sexual (meaning never having anything inside of you). I was a virgin when I got my first pap and I can remember it being extremely uncomfortable.

You may want to try to insert a tampon before your next appointment just to give yourself piece of mind and to calm your nerves. Doing this will help you relax about someone else putting something up there and this may ease the pain a bit. You may also want to "explore yourself" before your next visit so that you can begin to know your body and know what feels normal, what doesn't, and what hurts. Welcome to Womanhood

I would say it isn't normal, I didn't every scream or cry... and my daughter didn't scream or cry. Did your doctor notice anything unusual?

Relaxing would help. As would talking to your doctor about your case. Really.
