I filed my federal, but forgot to attach my w-2. I have the w-2 in front of me now, what do I do?

I did that once & they sent back the 1040 form to me & I had to resubmit it. It took a while to get my return back because of that as well. I learned my lesson.

The IRS should send the tax return back to you unprocessed. Attach the W2 and send it back in.

They will send you a notice requesting the W2, do not send it in until they notify you

The IRS will return the return and get you to resend it.

They already know what you're getting back. As long as your calculations add up to what they have, you're good to go. :)
