The dots are petechiae, which are tiny spots that develop when capillaries bleed into the skin. When there are lots of petechiae, it is called purpura. Petechiae form because your blood is not clotting normally, or when clothing is way too tight, and it actually squeezes blood out of the capillaries.

If the petechiae formed for no apparent reason, the most common cause is a loss of platelets in the blood. There are all sorts of things that can cause a reduction in platelets. If you have recently had the flu or a cold, this can sometimes cause the immune system to start destroying platelets. This condition is called ITP or immune thrybocytopenic purpura. ITP is not dangerous, but it is a real annoyance. ITP goes away in most people after awhile, but some people end up with a chronic form.

Other things that can cause petechiae are aspirin, and a variety of blood and bone marrow problems, and some types of cancer.

You should go to hospital to get a blood test to see whats going on. This symptom isn't a dire emergency, but you should try to get to a doctor today if you can. If you have ITP, it will get worse in the next few days, and if its not ITP and turns out to be something more serious, a couple of days could make a big difference in the outcome.

The link below lists all the possibilities associated with petechiae.

The Blood vessels or capiliaries under the skin are what the red dots are..Ive seen this before and Ive never known it to be dangerous. It could be a circulation thing so if your worried go to the doc and get his advice. Im sure its nothing to be alarmed about though..

You may just have a minor skin irritation, or an allergic reaction to a body wash or cream you've been using. Try and think of anything creams/washes you use that contain artificial scents. Go to a walk in clinic and get their oppinion, it may not be anything at all. Calm down, I promise, it'll be alright :). Hope this helped

You will get better.

if you have sensitve skin like me, then its just a minor irritation. either, the clothes you are wearing are irritating your skin or you have just come out of the cold. chaffing-rubbing of something against your skin-can cause red dots to appear especially in the cold. if you slapped the skin, then that could be it. the red dots are red capillaries that burst, kind of like a miniature bruise. i would check with my doctor but usually it goes away in about 3 days.
