I live in Long Beach, about a block from the beach. It's in Los Angeles County, but since LA County is about 100 miles long from north to south, and it's the southernmost city, it's pretty much orange county (o.c.).
It's really a mixed city with its bad areas and good areas (often overlapping quite closely), and is serviced by the 405, 710, 605, and 91 freeways, as well as Hwy. 1.
There are many fun things to do in Long Beach too. The highlight is probably the Queen Mary, and downtown Long Beach, but Belmont Shore is very nice and upscale.

The City of Long Beach is one of 88 cities in Los Angeles County. It is kind of in the south west corner of the county and on the ocean, south of Santa Monica Bay and east of Palos Verdes Estates. It is the 2nd largest city in the county (population wise--496,166 people) after The City of Los Angeles, which is kind of in the centerish part of the county. It has a huge commercial and naval port area which is important for containerized shipping, some man made islands used for oil production and storage and of course a very long beach, north of Seal and Huntington Beaches. It was last incorporated (for the second time) as city in 1897

The U.S. Navy no longer has a base in Long Beach. It has been more than five years since the base and shipyard closed. There is a base in Seal Beach, munitions storage.

South of LA on the coast. It's technically LA county, but it might as well be part of the OC
