A rabbit punch is a punch to the neck or to the base of the skull. It is considered dangerous because it can damage the cervical vertebrae and subsequently the spinal cord, which may lead to serious spinal cord injury or even death. For this reason the punch is illegal in boxing and many other combat sports that involve striking. The punch's name is derived from the use of the technique by hunters to kill rabbits with a quick, sharp strike to the back of the head, for instance using a blunt object such as a steel pipe.

A rabbit punch is delivered to the back of the head just at the nape of the neck.

It's illegal because if you've ever been hit with one, you will know why it's also called the Sunday punch.

Buffy3247 nailed this one before the blogbaba could, I gave her a thumbs up. The back of the head is the traditional description, but compression of the vertebrae is the medical reasoning behind making it illegal in the ring. Bend you chin towards you chest and feel the vertebral bulge between you shoulder blades at the base of you neck. It is a killing blow in some schools of martial arts and the reason you never turn your back on you opponent.

a rabbit punch is a rapid succession of blows usually to the midsection of an opponent. Named this because the speed of the punches is similar to when a rabbit repeatedly taps it's foot, ala thumper from Bambi. It's not a punch to the back of the head like noted previously.
