If you are taking about becoming a military Dependant your son should contact a JAG to see what if anything can be done. Normally military Dependants include your spouse and children only.

This is completely separate from your dependent status according to the IRS, and the previous two answers are addressing your IRS status.

military Dependant status includes eligibility for housing, medical, military commissary and PX privileges, etc... at reduced or no cost to the solider and his Dependants.

It took some searching but I believe I found you some information...it may take some time plus a bit of paperwork on your son's part.
He is going to have to claim you as a dependant with the Department of Defense who will advise him on everything necessary - though he should be able to get all the paperwork at Ft Bliss.
Has he talked to anyone in his command? That would appear to be the first step.

Dependent Parents and Parents in-law
*The uniformed services make eligibility determinations about your dependent parents and parents-in-law, register them as dependent parents or parents-in-law in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS), and issue DoD dependent ID cards to them.

Your son can get all the required paperwork done through his personnel office to make you his dependent if he is your sole source of support. Once that's done, he can get you registered with DEERS, get your ID card issued so you can sign up for TriCare (go for PRIME) health insurance ($240 a YEAR or he can have it taken out of his pay check), commissary privileges, exchange privileges, etc, etc.

Yes, it can be done. It is a lengthy process and lots of paperwork. He needs to PROVE that he is responsible for a percentage of your income and care. He needs to go see JAG and his unit and get the ball rolling. It can be denied though, so dont think because he is doing the paperwork that it is a done deal. It took my friend almost a year to claim her mother as her and her husbands dependant.

he would have to provide at least 50% of all of your expenses for 12 months before he could apply to have to added as a secondary dependant. It is VERY hard to do so.

It's a difficult thing to do. First, you need to be rated 100% disabled by Social Security. Then he can get the paperwork from this command's personnel office and start the process.

Hell, that's an easy one. On your form 10-40, check the box that says you can be claimed as a dependant and have him claim you as a dependant by writing your social security number on his 10-40.

Unless he pays for at least 50% of your keep, he can't other than that, all he has to do is file his taxes with you as his dependent and show proof with receipts.
