chat rooms can work but its best to not meet people online, you never know when they are really freaks and its very dangerous. My friend met a person online and became friends and met with them and they turned out to be a freak that tried to get her to go to a hotel with him

Start a MySpace page. Site your interests and ask for responses. That is a start. Also, chat rooms. If you visit one you like often, you will become friends with the regulars there.
