The only time I hear that is when I am sure they want to damn me to hell! Isn't that a lie? Saying one thing when you mean another?! Anyway, it's also a way that they show pity. I think it's stupid to say that! Don't get me wrong, I'm a believer, I just don't agree with most "Christian" practices. And I do say things that make some of them really angry! To those that get angry with me, you'll have to love me in heaven!

Not sure, my granny always use to say that and I have an aunt who always says 'God bless you' when someone sneezes, which I think is odd.

No one has talked like that since HEE HAW or Petticoat Junction.
If you don't understand, that means decades.

I don't know exactly. As you probably know, I'm Christian -
but, if what i mean is "f uck you" then I say that.
What the hell are we if we can't be honest??

It's just an expression. Try not to read anything into it - your question answered itself.

They have been taught the wisdom of "kindness."
It also means that the person is viewed with respect.
