Can someone please explain to me the controversy over last weekend at Daytona? I'm not really into NASCAR however the fines and suspensions have peaked my interest.

It's controversal because Kenseth and Kahne are getting docked 50 points before the season even started. What's controversal about that is Johnson was caught with much larger infractions last season and wasn't docked any points at all. Also Waltrip was caught putting an additive into his fuel that's illegal. It's similar to a baseball player using steriods. He was docked 100 points. All this before the season even started.

The Evernham cars and Rousch car were pentalized for breaking the rules. But the part of the car in question....there is NO RULE in NASCAR RULES stating that it is or isn't illegal. That's why they are upset, they were pentalized for something that isn't against the rules, NASCAR took it upon themselves to make a call to say it's illegal and pentalize.

That was the only controversy from what I know.

There was no contraversy over Michael's penality, it was a rule break to the fullest and he was punished.

NASCAR isn't getting too nit-picky, they are simply handing out punishments for breaking the rules. They've had a lot of rule breaks and ppl aren't taking it serious b/c the pentalties haven't been high enough. SO they are making stiffer pentalties so that teams will take it seriously and stop trying to cheat.

NASCAR sets rules and regulations for all drivers and teams to keep the competition competitive and fair. Trying to make all the cars even in performance making it a race between drivers and not by unfair advantages.
When a driver fails to obey the rules, or the car fails by using illegal equipment and gets busted, then NASCAR slams the hammer down. The same as the law does on us if we break our societies laws.
