out of those two, I'd go for Lionel Richie!
But i do have another suggestion:
Wanna Grow Old With You - Adam Sandler
It's from the movie The Wedding Singer. It's a great song!

I Cross My Heart
by George Strait
Our love is unconditional
We knew it from the start
I see it in your eyes
You can feel it from my heart
From here on after
Let's stay the way we are right now
And share all the love and laughter
That a lifetime will allow
[chorus]
I cross my heart
And promise to
Give all I've got to give
To make all your dreams come true
In all the world
You'll never find
A love as true as mine
You will always be the miracle
That makes my life complete
And as long as there's still breath in me
I'll make yours just as sweet
As we look into the future
It's as far as we can see
So let's make each tomorrow
Be the best that it can be
[chorus]
And if along the way we find a day
It starts the storm
You've got the promise of my love
To keep you warm

It depends on what your favorite genre of music is. If you like country...I cross my heart by George Strait is a very good one (playing it at my wedding for the second song of the evening) also My Best Friend by Tim McGraw. I am playing You Are by Jimmy Wayne. This was never really a popular song but it is me and my fiance's song so that is why we have chosen it. The chorus goes like this
You are my love
You are my life
My heart and soul
The truest friend Ive ever known
You are my world
All of my dreams
My fantasy, My reality
I love everything you are...
See I am just a country girl...but I thought there was many other good options that people gave you. It is a hard decision I know...I just had to decide myself!

I like the Shania Twain duet "From This Moment", also, someone suggested "Unforgettable" with Natalie and Nat King Cole, I agree it is a great wedding song, but for the father/daughter dance. Good luck and congratulations!

Anne Murray - "Could I Have This Dance"
The refrain line is:
"Could I have this dance,
for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner
Every night?
When we're together
It feels so right.
Could I have this dance
for the rest of my life?"
The first dance is typically a waltz rhythm, and this song has an excellent strong waltz beat to it. The waltz rhythm is a three count rhythm with the strongest beat on the first count: ONE, two, three, ONE, two, three.

I like the Dire Straits song. But check the lyrics...sometimes it's hard to tell what they're really saying.
