Four men want to cross a bridge. The bridge can hold a maximum of two people.

One man takes 10 minutes to cross, another takes 5 minutes to cross, another takes 2 minutes to cross, and the last takes 1 minute to cross.

If two men cross the bridge together, they must walk at the pace of the slower one.

It is night so each trip requires a flashlight. There is only one flashlight. The men are not allowed to toss the light over the river. One must bring it back acoss for the others to use.

How fast can you get all 4 men over the bridge?

My first guess is 19.....

Ive now done it in 17 mins

First man 1 and man 2 walk across the bridge. This takes 2 minutes.
After this, man 1 walks back with the flashlight. This takes 1 minute.
Then man 3 and man 4 walk across the bridge. This takes 10 minutes.
After this, man 2 walks back with the flashlight. This takes 2 minutes.
Then man 1 and man 2 walk across the bridge. This takes 2 minutes as before.
In total: 2+1+10+2+2=17 minutes.

17 minutes.
First, the 1 min and 2 min guys cross, thats 2 minutes, then the 1 min guys comes back, thats 3 minutes total. Then, the 10 and 5 guys cross, thats 13 total minutes, then 2min guy comes back, and goes back with 1 min guys, so thats 13+2+2=17 minutes.

19 minutes. The guy who can cross in a minute does all the work so crosses with the 2 min walker then goes back wiht the light, then the 5 min walker, then back to get the 10 min walker.

So 2mins + 1min ( back ) + 5mins. + 1min (back) + 10 mins.

Total 19mins.

10 minute man plus 1 minute man = 10 minutes
1 minute man back = 1 minute
5 minute man and 1 minute man = 5 minutes
1 minute man back = 1 minute
1 minute man and 2 minute man = 2 minutes

10 + 1 + 5 + 1 + 2 = 19 minutes

How deep is the water? Can they just wade across? What about a boat? And what is on the other side of the bridge that they are all wanting to get to? And who designs a bridge that will only accept a load of less than 300 lbs?

10 min & 1 min man walk across = 10 mins
1 min man walks back = 1 min
5 min & 1 min man walk across = 5 mins
1 min man walks back = 1 min
2 min & 1 min man walk across = 2 mins

10 + 1 + 5 + 1 +2 = 19 mins.
