Eucerin cream. Expensive, but thick - comes in a plastic white jar. There is a generic form of this that works equally well and is much cheaper. Another thing to try is Bag Balm. You can find that in drugstores. It comes in a square metal tin (last time I bought it, it was green). It's original use was to lubricate cracked and dry cow udders. Slather that stuff on before you go to bed, and put some loose clothing on over it so you don't get your sheets greasy, and that will do wonders. Another trick I use, which also works wonders, is to put some baby oil on your wet skin as soon as you step out of the shower or tub. Do it before you dry off. When you're done, then dry off with your towel. The towel will take off the excess oil, but the remainder will soak into your already moist skin and moisturize it. It works wonders - way better than lotion. Baby oil now comes in a squeeze tube gel. I prefer that to the original oil because it is less messy and easier to apply. I have the same problem as you sometimes. It's nothing to be scared about. This time of year makes people more proned to this skin condition because winter air tends to dry out the skin -even in Southern California, where I live. Best of luck to you!

There is a medicine sold at CVS. They have a body wash and lotion. When I was a child I used a medicine that smelled just like it, but I don't remember the name. My ex-girlfriend uses it now and since she started she didn't have any problems with hers. Check CVS you'll find it.
