No, you need separate partitions to dual-boot safely. Also, you will want to install XP first, then Vista.

What I plan on doing when I am able to have Vista is to install Vista on drive C, and XP on drive D. How I plan on doing this to format the hard drive into two partitions using the maker of the hard drives' own partition software.

Just visit the makers website and most of these programs are free and located in the Downloads section. Make sure you have a floppy disk and floppy drive. You will have to boot off of the floppy disk to run the program. Oh, and back up any personal info you want saved because it will wipe the drive!

As mentioned above, there is a good chance you can install both Vista and XP on drive C, but I too would advise against doing this.

It may work as long as you install XP on a different drive or partition than Vista. Installing them both on the same drive letter would probably be nightmare-ish. Don't know for sure though..I haven't tried it.

properly, in case you have sufficient room on your a million annoying tension, basically get into the setup menu in the previous the OS starts off and create a 2nd partition and positioned the 2nd OS on that. regardless of the actuality that I discourage this simply by fact considering that there is just one annoying tension and can take in a large type of room. you have constrained area to place the rest on your computing gadget Vista takes up a large type of reminiscence and area so be careful once you get entry to the the two considered one of them, simply by fact it is going to decelerate the processor's time to getting each and every thing jointly and dealing the OS.
