Just out of curiousity. During visits to the doctor and while waiting in the lobby, more often than not you have nurses who are chatterboxes. I've heard them refer to their uniforms as "scrubs" when complimenting on the cute little patterns or designs on their clothing. I've seen it on TV, too, while watching drama shows like E.R. or Grey's Anatomy. So...why?

Because it was once the attire used to perform surgery. Prior to surgery, doctors have to "SCRUB" in...meaning, to clean their hands and arms of all bacteria. Nowadays, the attire is worn all the time.

I totally agree with you. Of all the words I dislike the most it has to be the frequency of the use of the word retard. I can well understand the word being used in the days when people were very ignorant and saw people with brain disorders as retarded, but these days there is no excuse for using that term. I have a friend who constantly refers to me as a retard, and yet I am the one with the Doctorate, you tell me? I think it is just pure ignorance and lack of education on the part of those people who use that term so loosely.
