A neighbor in our community plays music with alot of bass at a very loud volume while sitting in their car. It is a regular daily occurence (multiple times throughout day/night) but usually stops in less than 15 minutes (per time). Last night it was around 1am. They also have not mowed their lawn in about 6 months. What is the most respectful way to approach these situations. I really could care less about the lawn (other neighbors may think differently), but the music is disrupting my sleep. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

The way you said it here is very respectful. Perhaps you should just approach the neighbor in the same manner?

Also, you can always call the police and do it anonymously.

With regard to the grass, you can call the city. They will write a letter and make him mow his lawn.

Then don't be a *****. Just take a few deep breaths, go over there, be nice and sincere. You could say something like, "I know you're trying to have a good time, but could you turn it down a bit, it's really loud in my place." If they refuse, tell them you will call the police. Then call them. There may be some sound law like no loud noise after 9 or 10pm so the police can tell you that too. That sucks about their car. They should have checked with you first about parking there or not done it. That's making me think they might be ***holes. If the car is in your way, let them know about it. Try to be as civil as possible and not get into a neighbor war. Then no one wins.

Call the cops with a noise complaint (not the 911 number, but the local non-emergency line). Why be polite about it when the person doing it obviously knows that he/she is waking everyone up and doesn't care?
