you won't get charged a fee if your bank does that. using a "debit" card will sometimes have a fee attached, but using "visa" won't, that's why the bank suggests you just say credit when asked...

Instead of being "instantly" deducted like if you went to an ATM, it takes up to a week for it to be deducted.

The only reason it was run as credit was becuase the business probably doesn't do debit....your debit card has the visa/mastercard logo so that you can also use it anywhere visa/mastercard is accepted-- and then its still taken out of your bank account.

Be carefull-- its super easy to overdraft this way!

Does not matter it still will come out of your checking account within a few days.

You can use debit card with either a MasterCard or Visa symbol at least two ways.

Signature transaction-choose the credit button and sign for your purchase.

Pin transaction-choose the atm/debit button and enter your pin.

Both methods come out of your checking account within a few days.

You can also use your debit card at some merchants who just take credit cards.

It jsut takes longer to process. If it's done as debit and you enter your pin number, the transaction between the store and your bank is usually instant. The money comes directly out of your account and the place you bought from is paid immediatly. If it's swpied as credit, it still comes out of your checking, but it just takes a few more days to process.

If your ATM card has the VISA or Mastercard logo on it, it just comes out of your bank account just like it does the other way. They are meant to be used both ways.
