Overall, I don't regret becoming an atheist. Being driven by the truth, adhering to it as best I can see and understand it takes the priority. And the relief from struggling to teach the bible honestly to others was considerable. But I missed, and to a degree still miss, the community, the social life. I discovered, at the last church I attended (evangelical, bible believing), that of those I could discreetly enquire, it being a touchy subject, that about third of people did not believe, but spoke and acted as thought they did in order to preserve what was vital to them: that very sens of community,.fellowship. I understood the point of view, but it wasn't an option I could take up so, in leaving Christianity, I lost most of my friends... And as for the "never was a true Christian" argument... Well, if I wasn't, then no Christian can be assured that they are. By every external and internal sign, I was one. And in any case, it only applies if Christianity is true, as opposed to someone being convinced of it being true, Something very different that feels identical to the believer.

I miss prayer the most as it created a peace in me and made me feel like I could do something when I had a problem.

Yes i miss the community that is all striving towards a similar aim. I even tried to go back a few times but it just never worked it certainly proved to me I;m not one of them anymore.

Everything that I thought I would miss has been presented to me in a different form that doesn't involve religion at all : community, hope, etc.

Wow, excellent question!
I think I miss the fellowship with other people of like mind. I miss the singing (I was in a gospel group).. other than that, I don't miss it at all.
Even within that community, there was a lot of gossip, backbiting, and people vying for position. So, come to think of it, I think I just miss the singing.. thanks :)

I honestly don't miss anything. Everything that I liked about the church, I have found in other avenues of my life that make more sense to me.
