In Jesus' day, the outcasts were lepers, those who were blind, deaf, unable to speak, cripples and those with any kind of deformity. Jesus healed all of these. Although under the Mosaic Law, He would have been defiled just by touching them, Jesus came to show us the true meaning of God's love. He willingly touched them, giving them love liberally and without discrimination; He never hesitated; He never stopped healing or helping because He grew tired; He showed love to each of them, even though many didn't have the decency to thank Him.

Christians are commanded to conform our behavior to that of Jesus. Many of us utterly fail this test because we are selfish and judgemental. I pray this will change; the world is badly in need of TRUE Christians.

Treating outcasts with respect and kindness, being nice to your neighbours, and being a good person in general, have nothing at all the Christ or Christianity. Jesus, and he was an historical person, was a good person, and preached all the above. He was not the first, and he was not the last. It's you, and me, and others, of ALL beliefs, who try to be good people, and we would do so whether Jesus lived or not. If a Christian chose to treat an 'outcast' with respect and dignity, then he does so because of himself, not because he was asked to by Jesus or anyone else.
You may not be able to use this, because it is obviously religious situation, but my message to you is that if you are a good person, then you are not simply good by proxy!

It might influence Christians today, because Jesus was tolerant, compassionate and did not accept that the Jewish priests refused entrance to the temple for lepers and outcasts. However, this part of Jesus' teaching seems to have been conveniently forgotten by the majority of so-called Christians today.

Jesus treated outcast the same way he treated his disciples even though his disciples didn't like it that way. This served as an example for Christan today to be able to treat outcast the same way Jesus did. If you've got a bible just open to the book of Matthew Chapter15 from verse 21to28 to serve as a prove and example.

I think, that Mother Teresa and the nuns she worked with are wonderful examples of this very difficult feat. The Rescue Missions and Jail Ministries are also wonderful examples of trying to be helpful to the least, the lost and the lonely. Food for the Poor, Feed the Children and other missionaries give their life to try to benefit the broken, the hungry and the helpless. People that dig wells in foreign countries to help the poor are a blessing for sure. People who hand out supplies for living and personal needs after tornadoes and hurricanes like Operation Blessing minister to the homeless and heartbroken. There are many folks who work with, the poorest people in the United States of America, the Native American Indians who live daily in extreme poverty in places like South and North Dakota, Arizona, Four Corners, USA. The ones who work in the American Indian Schools like St Labre, St Joseph and other Native American schools that provide education and shelter to the children. Places like Hope School work with the mentally handicapped as a mission. Ministries like American Helping Americans, Christian Appalachian Services who provide warm boots, food, heat and other needs especially for children. There are places which work in foreign countries too. Let us not forget the people who give their time to help people with addictions as well. People who dedicate their lives to helping the poor and hopeless. The hearts and hands that pour out their love and generiousity by giving to the missions and ministries should get some credit too because without the money they can not operate the services. May the Lord bless each and everyone who gives to the needy as well as those who give their lives for the hurting. We praise You, Almighty Father, for speaking to Your people who bless the outcasts of the world in Jesus name Amen!!

Jesus was born in a very cruel society, in which excommunication and extraction from society was not only due to health reasons but also due to lack of preventive measure.Today many people are playing kind to the untouchables;mostly christains.I rememer one John Meredeth was not being allowed to study in Unversity of white people but JFK tried his but failed;slowly the frenzy gave way to reason and rationality.

Well, according to the bible he was compassionate, forgiving and accepting of people's faults, foibles and history. Compared to the religious nutjobs who proliferate here, I can see no influence at all from Jesus on their bigotted, narrow minded, self-righteous, egocentric world view.

I, of course, am massively tolerant of these "christians"... honest - I've never actually carried out my threat of feeding them to lions. Admittedly, this is mainly because I have two domestic black cats and no lions...

It should help us understand that our duty is to be merciful, like Our Father in Heaven and we shouldn´t think we´re "the chosen few", the only ones who are gonna get saved.God´s ways are mysterious and we must help our neighbor find salvation, regardless of his or her social or moral status.God forgives anyone who repents and comes back to him like the prodigal son.
