Depends on how you define "doom". If you mean something like a nuclear holocaust or a deadly epidemic - yes, it does seem that human race is heading towards doom. Nations like North Korea and Iran seem to be trying to obtain nukes and USA and its allies may use a pre-emptive strike. Terrorism, war, misinformation campaigns, hatred ... everything seem to point to the conclusion that the end is not too faraway.
Have you read the Mayan Prophecy? It says that the world will end in December 2012. Also, the boy reported to be the Maitreyi of Buddhism is to return on 2012.
But the question about afterlife is different. If our bodies are destroyed, will we cease to exist or will we be freed and raised to heaven?
The best thing is to try to find the Truth in the religions and pray to God. May the Lord of the Worlds grant the good people the entrance to Heaven.

It doesn't look good. As long as there are people who think there is a world beyond this one, there is always the risk that the most fanatical of them will destroy this world in exchange for better positioning in their imaginary next one. Sooner or later someone with a suicide bomber mentality is going to have access to nuclear bombs. Our only hope is better educated future generations and relegation of theistic beliefs to the corners of obscurity like The Flat Earth society. etc.

Future is not a thing to be judged or a thing to have a discussion on.. I thinks its bettr if we try to live in present and try to solve our present first..result(i.e. future) would definitly be good then!!
