Like everyone's said, it's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. If you want to see an extreme example, rent "As Good As It Gets." Jack Nicholson portrays a man with OCD.
You can be a child or an adult and have OCD. It's where a person can't help but engage in rituals that makes little or no sense to other people, but give the person great comfort. People with OCD are in distress until th ritual is completed or until things are just so. Some examples include organizing magazines on a table so that they are at exactly a 60 degree angle, having to fold clothes when taking them off (this includes in times of passion, which can be awkward), turning a light on and off X number of times. In mild cases, it's just repeated thoughts.
Some people with OCD, especially kids, are embarrassed and try to hide their disorder, which is why diagnosis and treatment are really important, because it gets worse over time. This is an anxiety disorder.
The people I know with OCD are really functional and bright. I have a friend with OCD who's a very successful contractor. The only thing I really notice is that he has to keep things very tidy, and he is very precise in a lot of things.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a psychiatric disorder most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions which attempt to neutralize the obsessions. Thus it is an anxiety disorder.

I have it, and I don't like kissing or shaking hands, I wash my hands a lot, I sort things into color, and I like to set a song on repeat and listen to it a lot. It's hard sometimes, but I try to fight it, and most of the time I can.
