I already dye my hair with loreal preference dark brown. But the color just doesnt seem to last, and lightens up dramatically within the first week. Is there a color, or brand that I should try to keep my color dark dark brown....the color it looks when wet. Or should I just get it professionaly done? any advice would help...thanks!

I have the same problem with the same product, same color. I am thinking of going to a professional. Good luck to us!

If you cannot afford to get it done professionally, try the Loreal Natural Match.
I had my dark brown hair going between red and black for a long time and then had alot of trouble finding a color that looked good without making me look pasty or ruddy.
The 4c shade, cool dark brown, is great. The cool tones did it for me.
It stays dark, covers red tones (and grey- eeeek!), and looks natural.

I redye it about every 6 weeks, becuase of the afore mentioned grey, and because it is a tad darker then my roots.

Other things that I do to keep it 'fresh':
1. Use color protecting shampoos and conditoners. Do this especially if you have it dyed professionally, to protect your investment.
2. My hair is dry and I use next to no product, so I shampoo every other shower and just wet it down and condition on the alternate.
3. Try not to 'traumatize' it anymore then I have to- I don't straighten or blow dry often and keep it pinned up if I have to be out in the sun.

I have not tried any of the 'inbetween colorings' color glazes yet. You may want to look into that.

Well I would always use a cream dye as oppose to using liquid. I also find that loreal prefernce is more for older people that want to color gray but you do have the cream loreal that has certain color shades. I would try something like wella or even try ethnic color dye because they are for a rougher texture of hair (Sally Beauty Supply)...Also when you dye your hair, after you apply the color, put a plastic cap on your head and put a hot towel on your head or a blow dryer for maybe 10-15 minutes. Just use conditioner when you are rinsing it out. Use color shampoo and don't use clarifying shampoo because that takes the color out.

I'd get it professionally done & ask if the salon has "So Color." It's a very gentle hair color. The over the counter hair colors aren't what they seem. You always have to get one at least two shades lighter than what you actually want to end up with. When going back to a pro for a touch up in six weeks or so, you should just get the regrowth re colored. If you have the pro do the regrowth, then pull the color up to the ends each time, your hair will become so dry & brittle. I have hate hair color brought to the ends the third or fourth time I go to have my regrowth colored. I also use Pantene shampoo with built in conditioner & then use the spray in conditioner, before blow drying.

Get it professionally done. The color we use is MUCH better than the store bought stuff and is designed to last. If you're worried about price, check out a local cosmetology school. Professional products at about 1/4 the price!

You should definitely get it professionaly done.. I worked in a salon for many years, and can vouch for the difference between store bought and salon quality.. I like Redken... I have had Aveda and Paul Mitchell and don't think either of those last very long...Redken seems to hold the best, and they have many awesome products to keep your color looking great!!
Good luck to you!!
