You need to differentiate between the Ot and the NT. In the early days God gave the Jews a law which was later PERFECTED (not abolished ) by Jesus. Some things in the OT (stoning people, taking only a few steps on Sabbath) were changed by the New Law of Love, given to us by the blood of Christ. You should read Saint Paul´s Epistle to the Galatians.
My conclusion: the Bible isn´t old fashioned. Some laws changed because God revealed himself to the Gentiles and the laws given to the Jews were no longer necessary.Other things, like the 10 commandments still remain. But the Bible is eternal, it´s God´s word and those laws that were perfected are a proof of God´s wisdom, and even though they are not to be followed nowadays they still hold precious lessons for us. (The main of them is the rejection of Idolatry)
When it comes to the NT all the things written there should be our "code of behaviour", the standards by which we should live.

If you live by what the bible tells you to do, you'll execute people (by stoning them in public, which means EVERYBODY gets to participate in the execution) for adultery, doing any "work" on Saturday, and a bunch of other trivial matters. You'll hide women away for a week (or more) when they have their periods and not let anyone see or touch them, and if someone accidentally touches them (or their clothing or bedding), they have to perform bloody animal sacrifices to be ritually cleansed -- and if they refuse to do that, you (again) stone them to death.
You'll treat women as property, be told that it's OK to own slaves as long as they are from another country, follow detailed rituals for animal sacrifices, and not know anything about real medicine, human reproduction, physics, geology, astronomy, or any other science.
And finally, you'll believe that people can do miracles if god wants them to.

Take the time to read Leviticus sometime -- then you an answer your own question. :)

There's no need for us to base our lives in the 21st century on the ancient superstitions of hebrew goat herders -- we're smarter than that. Well, at least some of us are.
Peace.

It is considered "old-fashioned" to some people because they can't and/or don't want to follow what God has outlined in the Bible, not the old testament or new testament alone, the Bible in whole. People get ideas and think it is a better one than has been presented in the bible so they go ahead and do what they think is best. God doesn't make mistakes, people do when they think up an idea on their own and believe they know better than God. People reject what doesn't fit in to what they want. Anyone can come up with an idea or excuse to get around anything in the Bible, satan is right there helping them get around God and his word. I remember these people in my prayers.

No, I think stoning people to death for gathering twigs on Saturday is perfectly normal.

Edit:
Now while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the sabbath day. Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation; And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. So all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death with stones, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. Numbers 15:32-36

The Bible has many interesting teachings, and concepts worth practicing in today's world. However, people take those teachings to the extreme, which then cause others to reject those wise teachings.

The Bible is forever, but Jesus changed some laws from the Old Testament. These were changed because Jesus came as the Savior, and therefore sacrificing animals, and condemning people to death because of their sins became void. Don't get me wrong. Jesus did not come to cancel out people having to own up to their actions. He did, however say that stoning ppl to death because of adultery was hypocracy.
