Speaking as a decendant of General Sherman, the history books were written by the north who's scholars forgot that scorched earth or total war , meant "killing EVERYTHING" men, women children dogs cattle cats........This I have read in my ancestors notes... i make no bones about it , He alone is the reason the north won,not some drunk other general on the fifty dollar bill.
However I don't think most Democrats or Republicans have stones to fight our eniemes the way he did.

Murhpy im sorry i'm really tired of PC sugar revisioning now while he did spare Cheraw SC as for it's Beauty, i've been there it really in the eye of the beholder. I mean how many war crimes? I don't even know where to start?

yeah josh and MC Clellan sittin on his rear for a few years that relly spooked em. have another drink grant, hell J.E.B. stewart did more than Grant

And it does seem your not alone but, to all those whom decend, I have but this , your folks I'm blood.

Some would say his tactics caused undue suffering to the civilian pop. in the South. Pillaging farms probably didnt do anything to ease the Southerners back into the Union after the war. Once you defeat the army militarily and the losing side is pursuing peace, you shouldnt rampage across the countryside ruining everything. I realize this may not have been the case in the Civil War, but thankfully the US hasnt repeated these tactics in confilcts since then.

He-ll of a way to talk about your fellow American. I'm from just outside Atl where 177,000 troops marched through on their way to Atlanta. The storys left behind, only a real twisted individual could say what your saying. Sherman didn't act alone in bringing down the South. Grant cut off the Mississippi River trade and shut down neede supplies and so did the Navy by cutting off supplies from other country's that prfited from the fact slavery was a money maker for them. Your wierd

If he knew anything about General Sherman then you would know he took no pride in doing what he did. He did it to win a war not achieve personal glory. He was the one that said "War is Hell" when faced with questions about his actions. Sherman had nothing but respect for his Southern foes and wished that the war had never happened since he had so many friends in the South. Sherman is one of the most misunderstood generals of the American Civil War.

Edit- I didn't mean this to be a PC post, I myself am from South Carolina and my family's home was burned to the ground and food stores stolen. What I really meant to say was that Sherman's acts were terrible but he didn't take pride in them.

And the left calls Bush a war criminal. In minor protection of the North, Sherman's march to the sea grew to become into considered as an atrocity via maximum northerners who felt murdering civilians grew to become into incorrect. Sherman due fullyyt to the political winds of the time grew to become into no longer tried as a war criminal as he could have been.

If any of you knew ANYTHING, you'd know that the policy of "Scorched Earth" was around LONG before Sherman ever implemented it.
