What a broad array of flavors you could enjoy. I'm kind of partial to Cabs since they are a little heartier. It always depends on my mood. A couple suggestions for Cabs would be Penfold's Rawsons Retreat $8(Austalian), Meridian $8-$9(California) Your costs may vary depending on your location. These have done well at my annual wine tasting parties that I hold. For $8-$9 you can't go wrong. If you're looking for a good Merlot I recommend Stags Leap 2002 Merlot $25-$40 per bottle (California). It is outstanding this is a great wine with many different hidden flavors. Best of luck on your fun journey ahead tasting so many varieties of wine. ENJOY!!!!

I'm not a huge red wine lover - I tend to drink white wines more than reds. However, I have found a couple of really amazing reds that I enjoy. If I am drinking one of those three grapes you mentioned, it will probably be a Shiraz. However, I found a great Cabernet Sauvignon a couple of weeks ago - Marynissen Estates 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon. It needs a couple of years still before it will be ready but it is a good one for cellaring.

Shiraz and Shiaz blends from Yellow Tail! Wonderful with a pepper steak or a good strong sharp cheddar.
This is my favorite: http://www.yellowtailwineusa.com/wines/shiraz_grenache/
However, my all time favorite wine has to be the St. supre Chardonnay! So delightful, smooth, buttery and divine with seafood!
Finally, the Charles Shaw vineyard has some fantastic wines, and they are sold out of Trader Joe Stores. (They are sold at about $2.00 per bottle and affectionately called Two Buck Chuck). Fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon!
Enjoy your wine, I know I will be soon!

I like Cabernet Sauvignon, it's harsh and dry. I also enjoy Merlot, although you need to be ready for it, and Shiraz is OK. I do not like Pino Noir, it's too sweet for my taste. But a few companies blend them, and my favorite red wine blend is either Cabernet Shiraz, or Cabernet Merlot, so dry, so gooooood!

Nope, nope, ain't gonna do it. Whatzzup with this ballot? Cab or Merlot. Its like choosing between massive brother and infant sister. answer must be hate'em the two, love'em the two, relies upon on the temper. Love a super, massive Cab - who does no longer. ninety 4 Gallo Frei Ranch Cab or a ninety Mondavi Reserve, sends chills up my backbone. a chum opened a Ornellia Masseto (super Tuscan Merlot combination) at a accumulating that i became into at, oh my. there's a richness and stability to nicely made Merlots that Cabs can not touch. So, a pox on your ballot (only kidding, love your ballot). howdy, yet next time, ask that's greater valuable Cabernet Sauvignon or Carmenere - grapes that are thoroughly diverse and supply up making us p.c.. between siblings. Sheesh.

Try some reds from Italy and France. French wines don't really go by a certain grape type, they go by the region where they are from like Bordeau. Italian wines are also very nice. If there is a Trader Joes near you, go down the red wine Isle with $50 and pick out 5 different wines from other countries...Enjoy!

I probably drink a few more Cabs. The extra tannins go well with the way I like my steak. Pinot noirs you left out, and if you haven't tried the big reds of the Italian Piedmont you've really missed out. You owe it to yourself to try as a minimum two Barolos, one of traditional type and one of the modern style, just for reference if nothing else. Nebbiolo is an underappreciated grape. And don't forget Spain. Riojas also fit quite well with a chunk of dead cow. You've reminded me that I eat steaks too often and probably need to get my cholesterol level checked. Oh, well, the reds will protect me.

Cabernet Sauvignon with Steak
Merlot with Steak
Shiraz (Syrah) with Steak
You have options therefore do not drink the same every time you have steak

Pinot Noir is excellent. I'm also partial to French Bordeaux (with a nice hearty steak) or an Italian Sangiouvese (always good on pasta night!)

I love the Cab's they just make relaxing that much better. You should try a Red Zin or a Pinot Noir they're both great reds with bold tastes.
