I'm 18 weeks, I plan on getting the tattoo 03.16. If there any known/proven health risks for the baby, let me know.
If you're a professional tattoo artist answering this question, that's even better.
Thanks :)

Here's all you need to know: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/tatoos.htm
Apparently there is some risk, but it's not too great.

Congrats first off...
It's best to wait until you've had the baby. As you know from your obgyn appts, they don't even recommend dying your hair and that's not actually being inserted into the body.
I would contact your obgyn and your tattoo artist as to whether they would recommend getting a tattoo or not. I'm kind of suprised that they let you book an appt if you were pregnant. The concern with tattoos is this...of course they're concened about the affects to the baby...since everything that goes into your body also goes into the baby's body - yes, the ink cells are too large to get into your milk ducts and such but it is still a foreign substance that you are putting in your body. In addition, getting a tattoo, even if it doesn't hurt that much to you is a strain on the body and it's system. You don't want your body to get tensed up to the point where you're helping induce contractions or cause unneccesary stress on your body or the baby. I looked up ALOT of information on all of this because I was looking at getting the tattoo while I was still nursing. My tattoo artist will tattoo if you are nursing if the child isn't a newborn but they won't if you are pregnant. Feel free to contact me if you want.

well i am in ottawa canada and here most people have been told that no u should not get one. i have done my home work and found out by a good friend of mine that a tatt will not harm the baby. the ink they use now is very different to what they used 10 yrs ago. i would be more concerned about where to get one. some spots are not the best. of course no where in the stomach regain. back and neck is iffy i would say it depends on if u plan on having an epidural for delivery or not. a tatt could make the spine very sensitive and an epidural could be very painful to get. any where elts i really think is up to u and my friend has done pregnant women before. u are getting up there in weeks and he personally will not do it if the woman is over 22 weeks. i would make a choice soon. good luck and it wont hurt the baby. my kids are fine and i had tatts with both.

"The main concern with getting a tattoo during pregnancy is the risk of contracting an infection, such as Hepatitis B and HIV. Although the risk is small, it is recommended that you wait to get a tattoo after your baby is born."
No real tattoo professional will tattoo anyone that is pregnant! You can check out this site that I have found and get the answers that you need. It lists all the risks of getting a tattoo while being pregnant.
Hope this helps and good luck!

As a professional tattoo artist and a father of 4 I would say that it is unsafe due to the body trying to heal the tattoo rather than taking care of the baby.

Why don't you call a studio or something. On here you are going to get people's opinions rather then educated advice. Since the ink doesn't go any further then one or two layers of skin the only problem I would see is the pain and stress on the body during the session. But like I said, consult an artist. They would be better apt at answering your questions.

It is a bad idea. Why take the risk of picking up ANY bacteria while you're pregnant. You're making yourself bleed which exposes you to everything. Where you may not normally get sick because you're a grown person, your baby still may get very sick. Just wait until the baby is born.

i'm a fan of between the shoulder blades (that's where i'm putting my next), but it really depends on the tattoo. i am a fan of egyptology so i'm considering a scarab amulet or on my lower back. in the end, i say f* it, it's your body, do what feels right.

No reputable artist should tattoo you if you are pregnant. Its generally done as a precaution because any infection or disease that might be contracted by getting a tattoo can be passed along to the baby or cause complications.
Please, please, please, wait until you've given birth before you get the tattoo.
