Hi it would be difficult to tell you if you were anaemic or not as woman menstruate differently, some lose very little blood during a period, and some have very heavy periods. I would suggest that if your worried you book an appointment to see your doctor so that they could run a simple blood test, and if you are anaemic, they will probably perscribe you with some iron tablets.
take care

You are more likely to be anemic if you have heavy periods, not the other way around.
Anemia is when you don't have enough iron in your blood, it causes weakness, fatigue & sometimes fainting.
If your concerned, go to the doc. If you are more concerned about your heavy periods, the doc can put you onto the pill to help make them lighter and less of a chore (as you know when they're coming and generally dont have as bad period pains)

You need a simple blood test to find out for sure. But some people who are anemic have dry corners of their mouth. Note that a lot of women who do not bleed heavily are anemic, so there is definitely a chance you are.

Hi,losing a lot of blood can cause you to feel weak and you need to make up for it by having more iron in your diet. You can also go on the contreceptive pill as this will make your period a lot lighter and it wont last for as long. Your doctor will prescribe you the pill, its free and will help a lot.

In response to the top comment:Dicky, do you have periods then? From a female perspective that has been through this, yes losing a lot of blood can cause you to be anemic

You could be. If you're feeling low on energy then it might be worth going for a blood test. The doctor will prescribe you some iron tablets to take during your periods if so. Heavy periods can be a sign of problems, so get that checked out while you're there too. Best wishes xxx

Menorrhagia is an abnormally heavy and prolonged menstrual period. Causes may be due to abnormal blood clotting, disruption of normal hormonal regulation of periods or disorders of the endometrial lining of the womb. Depending upon the cause, it may be associated with abnormally painful periods (dysmenorrhoea).
Total menstrual blood loss is usually < 80 mL. Prolonged or excessive bleeding, regardless of cause, may result in iron deficiency and anemia. Consult a Gynecologist.
Please see the web pages for more details on Menorrhagia.

Don't listen to Dickie. That's the problem right there...ALL males either a DR or a man thinks they know a woman's body and how it functions...they don't..YES...you can be anemic. check with your Dr..(hope its a female) and have a simple blood test done or try a low dosage of a vitamin supplement with iron. I wouldn't take it daily though...may cause you to become constipated if you take to much...

Not necessarily, many women have very heavy periods. Just have a chat with your GP regarding your heavy periods.

that depends, do you eat enough protein? or take vitamins? You need Iron if you think you may be. Protein is found in red meat, red wine, peanut butter, or take a vitamin. A sign of anemia is craving to eat "ice".
