First off doing what you are supposed to do.....if David had gone to war in the spring (like Kings do)...he wouldn't have seen Bath-sheba in the first place.
Second when he did commit adultry with her and the child that resulted died.
Third....he ended up with more problems because he indirectly killed Bathsheba's husband.
We can learn that it caused more heartache for the brief pleasure of the moment than it really needed to cause.
And there were consequences of his actions.

Bathsheba, as all women in her time and culture, had no say in what the sovereign ruler - King David - wanted. She either submitted or be killed (if he so desired).
He used his authority in a wicked manner and had her husband killed in order to have her for his own. This resulted in their first child being killed. God told him he had to pay for his sin by losing that baby. And remember, God loved David.
Today, men in authority still prey upon young women who are vulnerable or unable to stand up for themselves in given situations. Some still ask for sexual favours before hiring or even after employing a woman. Even in some cultures in present times, women do not have the right to say no to a man's lascivious approaches.
I suppose this is what is meant by "The more things change, the more they remain the same."

What goes around comes around. He allowed his lust to get the best of him.Knocked up the neighbor lady and had her husband killed.God forgave him but his life was miserable from that time forward. His son raped his 1/2 sister, her brother killed him, then Absalom tried to take over his father David's throne, and was killed himself. After David tried to number the people ,God sent a plague on Israel.David paid dearly for his errors.

We should love God and obey his commandments. Then we will love other people and all things in this wonderful creation.
Read the verses from the Holy Bible
Exd 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ***, nor any thing that [is] thy neighbour's.
Deu 5:21 Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ***, or any [thing] that [is] thy neighbour's.
2Sa 11:3 And David sent and enquired after the woman. And [one] said, [Is] not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
2Sa 12:24 And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
1Ki 1:11 Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth [it] not?
1Ki 1:28 Then king David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.
1Ki 1:31 Then Bathsheba bowed with [her] face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.
Psa 51:1 [[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.]] Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? [Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if [there be] any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Luk 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
May God bless you and reveal his will in you and enable you to live according to his good will. In Jesus name. Amen.

It teaches us that the wealthy and powerful can get whatever they want, and God will generally let them get away with it. If he punishes them, it will be relatively minor.
