I've always heard that celery is a minus on calories. A stick is like 4 or 5 calories and it takes more than that to chew it.............

sadly, no its not true!
celery has a very low amount of calories but, like all foods, it DOES have SOME calories. however, because it has hardly any then the calories wont turn into fat which is good and healthy. it is a lie that celery will actually BURN calories though.
any food digesting will use up calories throughout the day NOT just celery...... you could eat lots of junk food and you would still be burning calories!
celery is good because it doesnt have many calorie, therefore the equation of calories gained against calories burnt is higher than that of foods with more calories.....hope this makes sense to you!
so basically, wherever you heard this, the facts were not correct - its propaganda for celery!!
good question =)

According to Snopes.com, celery actually does require more calories to digest than it contains. But it isn't a 95 calorie loss... more like 12 per stalk.
Before you go to the fridge and start force-feeding yourself celery, be aware that it takes a 3500 calorie loss to lose a single pound of fat. So... the effect is practically non-existent.
But... at least you aren't eating doughnuts when you are eating celery... so it helps in that respect. Not eating that doughnut probably saves you 400-600 calories. Get the idea?

No - it will not burn 95 calories by eating and digesting. BUT if you do eat that snack of relatively calorie-free celery instead of that chocolate covered cream-filled sugar-laden doughnut, you've done a helluva lot better than 95 calories in damage control!

celery is considered to be a negative calorie food, which means that your body expends more calories digesting than the food actually contains. I think it depends on your body aso to how many calories you will actually expend by eating one stick of celery.

It's more like 30-40 calories eating it and digesting. And it's one serving, not one stick.

Yes actually it is, it's a well known fact that alot of raw fruits and vegetables burn not only he calories they lot off into your body but they burn more calories then they're worth. That's why ppl say they're still so hungry after a salad of fruit. I always eat a piece of fruit after meals, helps the full feeling too. don't ppl read, research man research!!! lol.

well you burn 2000-3000 calories a day if you just sit there. So I'd believe this, it's probably not anything special about the celery.
