He found this dumb police scanner while he was dumpster diving weeks ago, now all he does is listen to it.

He thinks the cops don't respond quickly enough to the calls, and that he could do better.

He is also obsessed with Superheros like Batman and Spiderman.

He's getting really whacked out, and was even more inspired when he saw this story on the news:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,2521...

I'm really worried he will put on a mask & take to the streets himself any day now.

What would happen if he got caught?

He's 30 years old, lives a stable life, no history of psychiatric illness, what is going on here?

What should I do?

Well a lot could happen. One, a citizen could get scared about this guy running around their neighborhood and take matters in their own hands, i.e. he might get shot or even have the police called on him. If he feels the police are too slow, why doesn't he join th epolcie department. Obviously the dept is slow because there are not enough peopel to run the radio calls. Also, calls are dispatched in order of priority. Even though he has no history of mental illness, he might need to be checked for one. if he gets picked up on the streets for running around the streets with a cape and mask on, I'm sure he will get an eval anyway.

Or you could just take away the scanner.

He could get arrested. If he's found not to have a mental illness, he could end up in prison if his "work" interferes with the police.

It sounds like he has a type of mental illness. It may be an obsessive disorder. It may be that something happened (e.g., he was robbed or mugged) and he's snapped.

He should at least talk to a therapist to figure out what's behind this.

Get him some psychiatric help. Even though he doesn't have a "history of psychiatric illness", apperently HE DOES have some form of issues.

He could get into MAJOR trouble with the police before interfering before they got there. The police will write tickets to people who follow them on calls to watch what goes on; I imagine it would be worse for someone who interfered!

By the way, your link doesn't work. It says "page cannot be found" on the Fox website.

fantasy # a million approximately psychological ailment... only the bums on skid row would be mentally ill. it may hit all people, and on occasion a "sturdy" individual is greater in possibility, if human beings blow it off because of the fact of outwardly being 'ok'. human beings devoid of historic previous of heart assaults can, and do, have heart assaults. Even family participants participants can clarify away weird and wonderful issues, or the guy keeps them hidden only adequate so as that they do no longer look to be glaring. in case you have reason to have self assurance that he ought to act on his concepts (that are achieving the degree of delusions), call your close by psychological well-being workplace. If he does some thing stupid, his issues would be with the police. somebody who's endangering themself or others and is theory mentally ill, could, in maximum states, be held for a psychiatric assessment, whether they do no longer prefer it. look greater heavily for different signs and indications that he's in all probability growing to be to be irrational. The definition of grandiosity is an atypical experience of greater ability, authority or ability than others. temper swings? to the component of wildly hyper, does not sleep, giddy. persons experiencing those issues will many times deny that that's occurring, because of the fact they do no longer see it. leaping in to police incidents would be a advantageous sign of irrational.

I'm sorry but, you made me laugh. thanks for making my day. I know a cop that did that when we were growing up. I still don't know why they gave him a job. He wrecked a bunch of the police cars now he is on a bicycle.
