There's a book I've read, Godless, by Pete Haufman, that brought up this point to consider.
But I've been considering it for a long time.
I've been an atheist for years, but lately I've been finding it attractive to worship false Gods like Pan or fictional characters with power as a God.

What my question is is how is it any different, what I am doing, from what others are doing today with all their religions and false Gods-- thinking that they are real, however, and with mine, I KNOW that they are not real??
There is no difference to me....

Well have you notice that Pan is a god not God. To make up something, you have no basis nor do you have a foundation. God is not a religion, religion is man made, God is a belief something that is a part of you and really can not be explained, but has to be experienced and once you do there is truly no desire to go anywhere else.

So. what will be the point to worship someone that you said it?, doesn't exist?, to take consideration of something, or in this case of Someone?, it seams that we have put or give some attention to it?, this is not the way I just tough of this, I have been in such predicament before, and it seams to me, that because I learn, and in my own, experience that there are the more significant words, than this, and in every Languages, Word's that Have Essences!!!, which I do believed are the Words, that make the difference for the many different levels of Awareness, and if you please, or which, Understanding, peoples can achieved and choose to use such positive and not four letters words, to talk and communicate more deeply and talk about to fix, differences and problems. To explain dreams and ideas, perhaps as well to talk about desires to achieved.????. Not limited too, but....., I'm running out of time., and I really don't know what is, and what isn't real? any longer? .

God is not in a book or in a building he dwells within you so if you have the desire to worship some god like pan fine, call him whatever you want, he will be with you always anyway no matter what you call him. People worship alot of things but in the end it is still becuase of the desire to be close to the creator which can be done with nothing more than your true willingness to know him. At least you are reaching out to know him and for that you will be rewarded with his love. good luck.

If all religions are different paths to the same place, then why do the paths contradict each other? Does truth contradict itself? Let's review the teachings of just three religions:
Buddhism is pantheistic and says there is no personal God and everyone can reach Godlikeness on his own. Islam says that Jesus was just a prophet, and not the only way to God. Christianity says that there is a personal God, and that the only way to Him is through Jesus (John 14:6). If these three religions are, as you say, different paths to the same place, then why do they contradict each other? Does truth contradict itself?

Everyone who "believes" has made up their own religion and are worshipping whomever they choose. Even within the same religion, you will not find two people who totally agree on what god is, or even what their religion is all about. Each individual makes up their own god and their own religion to suit their own selfish needs.

That's where the harm lies. By believing in a fantasy being, and allowing that belief to influence their lives, they are doing themselves and those around them a great disservice.

Mayhaps know/specialized faith can give comfort with it's long history of faithful worshipers; whereas you being a New Faith will have to create your own social and special days of ritual occurrences. There are may ways to express your sense of connecting to the greater stream of the Cosmos; to use the Cosmic viewpoint.
What have you chosen to be your pillars/ principles and are you sure about their worthiness as guidelines for living, it's things like that which can make your religion right for you, akin to your home, if you will.
Be it rocks or trees or the heavens above, home and heart find worth when they are.

I have a sister who I love very much and she is an athiest. She is a very good person, who would do no wrong and she loves everyone. She doesn't sin and believes in goodness. I feel that it's not who you pray to that counts. I feel it's how good of a person you are that will in the end make you end up exactly where you would like to be. To answer your question, there is no harm.

The Lord Jesus Christ left heavens glory and came to earth as a man so He could die for your sins. Mankind has changed the glory of God and worshiped images of all kind of things but God has turn them over to their lusts of their hearts. Romans 1: 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Romans 1: 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

It seems odd and a complete waste of time to be worshipping false Gods when you could worship the one true God, that has already paid the price for your sins...and through Him you have a way to spend eternity in Heaven...It just seems so unbelievable that someone would say no to that....but that is why we have free choice I guess...Be Blessed...well I guess that sounds funny...how can you be Blessed by false Gods...oh well...take care then.

Making a god to suit yourself is going to accomplish nothing at all, and infact keep you away from the one and only true God and eternity with Him.
A made up god won't answer back, nor save you....nor will a made up god give you the joys of salvation or peace or understanding--and a made up god will not keep you out of hell.

Jesus says "I am the only way, truth and life and no one comes to the Father but through Me" John 14:6
"Unless you are born again you cannot see the kingdom of God" John 3:3
This means, we must all realize we are sinners, and need Christ's forgiveness-humble ourselves in God's presence and put our faith in HIM, who is ALIVE and who holds our breath in HIS hands! There is one God, one true living and breathing God, and that is God of heaven and Earth, and our wonderful Savior!

Psalm 40:4
Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.

Luke 4:8
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.' "
