I have had a few probelms with my clio in the past few weeks.
Recently the electrical fault warning light has been coming while driving, as soon as it does I lose power and cant accelerate over 30mph. I also have a similar problem with the exhaust monitoring light coming on. Both started happening at the same time so i'm assuming its related.

I took my car the the Renault Stealership today for a ECU fault read to see if they could find the problem (they reckond if it was just a computer problem the could re-programme it)

I got a call from them this afternoon to say thay plugged it in but the ECU was so far gone that their fault reader could not communicate with my ECU and so they could not re-programme it and I would need a new ECU unit costing about £500. Anyone any ideas what might have caused this cos the garage didnt really have a clue

I'm not to happy about paying for a problem if renault have been fitting faulty ECU's cars and waiting for warranty to run out???

pull out the ecu fuse.yes it does have one! wait 1/2 hour then replace it.it will resolve the problem and also the car will have more power as it will adapt to your style of driving.after you replace it you need to drive for an hour solid.i recomend a blast on the motorway

whatever you do please DON'T pay £500. I recently had to get a new wiring loom fitted to my Clio and arnold clark (main dealer) quoted me £435+vat. I went to my local garage who were very helpful and did it for £215 all in. Main dealerships are a rip off and often their mechanics aren't all that good as diagnosing a fault. Take it to a local garage and you won't be disappointed. if you're unsure about which one to take it to ask around at work - word of mouth is a good way to judge good and bad places.

the two problems are not related, the alternator charging light is red and adjusting or renewing the belt may sort out the problem. The orange light is the light that tells you that you have a fault with one of the engine sensors, to sort this out you will have to take the car for a diagnostic

the problem you have got is a faulty lambda sensor i believe, and the reason that you cannot go over 30 mph is because your car is in get home mode of which it means you will not exceed a certain amount of revs there for 30mph.
go to a scrap yard and see if they have a car of the same make and model if so ask them if you can plug it in to your car or just buy it on a no fix u can return it basis.
