hourly, valet , or economy?

There are four lots. Valet is the most convenient, and most expensive. Hourly is usually for picking up folks, and daily for short stays. Economy is a bit further away (about a five minute bus ride). If you take Economy, I'd recommend parking in the Green lot, stop 14 (you'll see signs). Not only is 'green-14' easy to remember, but it is also pretty close to the exit so when you get on the bus you head more or less directly to the airport.

If I'm gone a short period of time, I use the daily lot which is connected (though a bit of a walk to some airlines). When long-hauling overseas, I use a combination: I come into the hourly lot, drop my bags and get my boarding pass. I then get back to my car in about 15 minutes (the first 20 or so minutes are free) and then drive to the economy lot, returning on the bus and heading to the gate. As you need to be at the airport 90-120 minutes early for overseas flights, this really helps you kill the time.

It depends on what you want to spend. You have four options, Economy, Daily, Hourly and Valet. The economy is by far the cheapest, but you will need to take a bus to and from the lot. The daily garages are connected to the terminal with by tunnels with moving sidewalks and are about twice as much as the economy lots. The Hourly lot and Valet are easy walks to the terminal, however, the valet is much cheaper than the hourly lot, and after the first day not much more expensive than the daily garages.
I fly out of Dulles quite often, and always use the valet lot, simply because it is easier and faster than the other options.

When it's a week, I generally use the remote parking, which is $9 a day. From these, you take a convenient shuttle bus to the airport.
The daily garages cost $15/day. I use them for shorter trips, but the $42 a week difference might be significant enough to make me choose the satellite (remote) parking if it were a week. I like the Green Lot best, for some reason that probably doesn't have a lot of logic behind it!
