She will retrieve the frisbee but not catch it in the air. Are there any training tips to get her to catch it in the air?

Teaching a dog to catch is not as simple as one would think. I would first start by teaching her to catch her food. Toss her kibble to her instead of feeding her her meals in a bowl (or at least part of each meal). You may need to be only an inch or so from her, depending on how skilled she is. Once she has the hang of it, you can toss from a slightly further distance and gradually increase the distance. When she can catch the food from a few feet away, start to toss it higher.
Once she has the idea, use this same method with treats and her favorite toys, then try the frisbee.
If she won't catch anything in her mouth, you need to teach her to take things from your hand first. Offer her something that she loves and then praise her when she takes it. Do this over and over. Then, when the dog moves forward to take the item, very gently toss it into her mouth. Be careful that you don't startle or hurt her, or she won't take things from you for awhile and you will have to start from scratch. When she is doing well with this you can proceed with the tossing exercises above.

Many dogs do not like to catch Frisbees because they are hard on their teeth and gums (including those purchased at a pet store). Old Navy, the clothing store, has rubber frisbees near the check out that are great! They are made of a softer plastic, almost rubber. My border collie loves them and they are cheap!

That's amazing. I have never seen a border collie who couldn't catch. Maybe it's just really unco-ordinated.
