Whats the point of a beagle? A lot different from a collie.

I have a collie and my dad has a beagle. They are so different from each other. My collie is so calm and mellow and the beagle is crazy and wild. He howls at everything whereas my collie doesn't really bark unless there is a reason. My collie is 4 and the beagle is 6 so there isn't an age difference. I love that cute maniacal beagle but I really do prefer my collie.

Beagles are part of the hound group and collies are working dogs. As a hound, you can expect your beagle to be more indenpendent and stubborn then your collie. Working dogs love to please, love to do things for their humans, while beagles often have a mind of their own. Once a beagle is in tracking mode, it's unlikely he will tune into your commands. They are wonderfully affectionate, goofy dogs.

Research the breed as much as possible before you make your choice. Consider your lifestyle and what you want out of your dog. If you want an obedient dog, who will follow you off-leash never straying from your side, the beagle is probably not the best choice for you!

If you feel that this it the right thing and that you are definately ready and you like beagles, i dont see why not. Just don't rush into things as beagles are different to collies and if you were to get a puppy they are very hyper and different to older dogs! x

Did you do your research on Beagles? It is very important that you do your research before getting any animals. You don't want to end up with an animal that is not right for you or for them.

There are many animals available for adoption at your local animal shelters and rescue groups. Why don't you contact a beagle rescue group and find out about the breed. They will be honest with, because they want to make sure their animals are going to a good forever home.

Go to: http://www.mypetnanny.info/pd/index.htm

You can find a animal shelter and rescue groups that serve your area.

Good Luck on your search!! Your new friend is waiting for you.

I have had beagles throughout my life ( I now have a jack russell puppy).....but beagles are such great dogs....very loyal and not too difficult to care for. They also make great family pets. I never had beagles that were big barkers like a lot of people complain about. They are definitely in my top choice of dogs to get.

What a strange question! It's like saying, when my husband dies, what sort of man should I have next?
Just enjoy your dog while it is with you. Our collie was 16 years old when we had to have her put down the other week.

Sounds like you waiting for her to die. Wait a while and give her all the love she deserves. When you eventually lose her you will be too upset to think about another dog for a while and should wait a while anyway to give yourself time to grieve. Dont replace her b4 she even gone
