Well my girlfriend who is 18 years old, has the same problem. It is basically anxiety. Also, panic attacks is another thing. She has also gone to the doctors as well, they couldn't find anything wrong with her. They had her test out a heart monitor to find out her heart rate, while this was occurring. They recommended her taking yoga, to try and relax her and get over these attacks. I know exactly how you feel, just try to be there for her, and help her through. Also, ask what she is scared of, and what she thinks about while these pains are occurring. My girlfriend is scared of dying. She thinks about it it gets to her imagination, and then the shortness of breath and pains occur. There could also be other things that can cause this for her. But just ask and she what makes the shortness of breath and pains occur, and what she thinks about that gets to her. I hope i was any help, if you need anymore advice, my email is wrestler77@msn.com just email me. Hope i could help

I had the same thing as your girlfriend does. The doctors claimed they could not find anything wrong with me and that I was in perfect health and they told me that I was having severe anxiety and stress and that when I had trouble breathing I could be having a panic attack. She needs to relax, what really helps is taking a Yoga class or meditation. If she's not into all that, she needs to find something that relaxes her and if it is not a health problem then her breathing problem will go away when she relaxes and stops having anxiety.

Hey, I don't want to scare you but I think you should forget about waiting for a doctor to open, and just take her straight to the hospital. They usually see you straight away if you have chest pain, as they don't like to take chances with it. I'm no doctor so I'm not sure, but she could also have Athsma or be coming down with something? Either way it is best to attend to this problem straight away, for peace of mind if nothing else. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon xo

I had similar symptoms at the beginning of January this year. I had a collapsed lung and I'm 26. She should go to the ER and get a chest x-ray. Mine had me hospitalized for 5 days with an emergency surgery. I thought nothing of it but ended up having part of my lung removed. Lungs collapse for no reason in all different kinds of people, but mostly those who are tall and skinny. Is she?

It may sound strange but it may not be her lungs that are the problem. I had chest pains and breathing problems when I was younger and it was related to my anxiety as I suffer with anxiety attacks sometimes.

Does your girlfriend ever get nervous or anxious about anything?

It appears that no doctor has been consulted...

She might be having allergy in upper parts of lungs that sometimes converts into asthma... she may also have infection in her lungs...

She must go to a doctor who should be MD (medicine) such symptoms would not appear without some ailment...

She must take it seriously...

what are doctors for ?consult a general practioner and he will analyse her and let you know what could be the problem and ask you to see a pulmonologist if necessary . She may need a series of investigations before a diagnosis be made.
