The jewely, braided hair, and expensive clothes were all part of what priestesses of Venus -- and/or Aphrodite -- wore. They -- the priestesses -- were basically prositutes, and Paul and Peter were warning them not to go down that road.

No! We aren't under the law of sin & death, we are under the perfect law of liberty/ Grace of God.
But to God, a gentle spirit is of Great Price. All the expensive hairdos & clothes isn't important, because God isn't a respecter of faces. God looks at the heart.
People should dress respectfully in the House of the Lord.
