If there was no abuse and this has nothing to do with anything except a high carbon monoxide level which you most likely were unaware of, and would have cured by taking the dogs elsewhere I do not see what their grounds are and I would challenge it immediately. A friend of ours has 2 Akita's and they are far from being considered medium! They are very loyal to his family and great with our little ones, however if they specifically say no children under six then you should listen. It's not worth putting the baby and dog in jeopardy. They've handled the dog, and obviously want someone to adopt quickly. If young children weren't an issue then they wouldn't mention it. On the plus side, there are so many other dogs that you can choose from that need good homes! I'm sure you'll find something that works out better for your family. Good luck!

You need to call animal control and ask them what law was broken. When an animal is impounded, it is generally held as evidence until the case is resolved, unless the owner signs the dogs over and relinquishes all rights to them. If the only issue is high carbon monoxide levels, I would think that the dogs could be returned once that is taken care of.

I'm not sure I understand why they would take his dogs. What reason did they give for doing this. Was your son taking care of them or did the fire department feel he was neglecting them by leaving them in a house where the carbon monoxide was so high? More Details Please.

If the question is can the pound take dogs , yes, but I don't get the carbon monoxide reference. does that have anything to do with giving the dog away?

The dog pound can take the dogs if they believe they have a legal right to. If they believe you are not providing proper care (I.E. No shelter, no food, no water, no love basically.) But if you could've gotten the dogs to a safe place and the dogs were not skinny or dehydrated and you told them that, then no, the most likely have no reason to take your son's dogs. I am very sorry that this happened...

I'm pretty sure they can't take your dogs away unless they believe them to be in extreme danger. If the ONLY problem was the carbon level and you offered to take them to a safe location, I don't think they can take them from you. Call your local shelter and find out what is going on.

yeah they can. They can be euthenized right away! I don't blame your son for being mad. They are part of his family, as he is to the dogs.

I hope you didn't take them there yet and sign the release form. Can't you find another temporary home for them until you get things back to normal? Ask a rescue if they can help out temporary.

Sorry, to sound so cruel but that is the reality.

If you have to get rid of them then at least try and find a rescue that can take them.

They can if they feel the dogs lives are in danger or if the dogs are not being taken care of properly. Speak with them and see if there is something you can do to make the living arrangements for the animals better in order to get the dogs back.

Stay in contact with them. Let them know you want the dogs back and will correct the carbon menoxide problem so the dogs stay safe. It's worth a try.
