Ginger is a root. People use it as a spice on food. Most spices are not man made. They are naturally found in the environment. Man can harvest the spices, like salt, which is a spice, has to be harvested from rocks.

Ginger is in fact the root growth of the ginger shrub. Buy it from most supermarkets. Use it by grating it finely into your cooking. Use in curries and goulash and other stews.
The fresh ginger really has a bite so be careful.
