To think of what I do want.

I don't think its him. I love him and care about him, but do not feel the relationship was right. I have told him this.
He keeps begging for me to be with him. That he will make me happy.
We have broke up several times before over 6 years, and he always promises the same thing.
I hate to hurt him again, but life is short. I want to see what else is there. He makes me feel like I have to be with him, and I cant date no one else.
He says he will never stop trying to get back with me.

DO I just keep letting him tell me that stuff over and over, or what?

You haven't said what you want - you've only said what he wants. There is a reason you keep breaking up. You have to cut the cord for good or decide this is what you want - for good. He will eventually stop trying to get back together with you. Go get what you want - be on your own. You probably need time alone to even figure out what you want. If something doesn't feel right, it isn't. Let your feelings guide you. It may seem selfish now, but it would be more selfish to keep hurting him.

He sounds very "controlling" to me & that's not the kind of man you need in your life...ever!!! Trust your gut feelings & as you have already said, you don't feel the relationship was right. That was the first red flag that went up. There will be more red flags, so end the relationship now. Put your feelings first & stop worrying about hurting him. He'll get over it. There's no good reason to allow him to make promises to you about changing, because it won't happen. You need time to look around & explore other avenues in life because if you don't & you stay with this guy, the controlling will get worse & you will never be happy!!! Don't let him make you feel guilty..it's just a ploy!!!!

No, it is time to move on. You are hurting him more by letting him hang on.
