Why would anyone purchase Peter Pan anymore and pay the extra rather than just buy the cheaper stuff?

I already know this....I used to work for Wal-Mart in Food/Commodities. Pretty much everything that is Wal-Mart brand is the exact same thing as the national brand!

Not Necessarily True. While they are made by the same company, it doesn't mean that the recipe is the same. Food manufacturing companies frequently "sell" excess capacity for manufacturing generic products. The recipe and raw materials however can be supplied by the buyer. We are not privy to the recipe for Peter Pan or Walmart peanut butter, or the contract with the manufacturer that identifies the supplier of the raw materials for each of those products. In short, it is possible that they are the same, but unlikely that Peter Pan would undersell it's product and recipe for generic distribution.

They are manufactured by the same company. It does not necessarly mean the same formula in both brands, though I suspect you are correct. A lot of house brands are off label national ones, I tend to use the house brand if I cannot tell the difference.

Salmonella is really unusual to find in peanut butter. The last time something like that happened, it turned out a tanker truck full of raw eggs was not washed out properly before it was filled with ice cream.

I would suspect the same type of thing happened here, which would mean the two brands are identical right down to the batch.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I wonder if Peter Pan will have to break their contract with Wal-Mart due to this? Since Peter Pan is a division of Conagra Foods it makes me wonder what else they make for Wal-Mart.

ALL market brands are made by the same people that make the name brands. In fact, that Wal-mart peanut butter is made by ALL three of the leading brands.

It is all in the mind.
This is what "name brands" mean. Most store products are as good. But we pay extra for things. Thinking about the brand.
But at times some brands do taste better.

many brands do this. i once used some charcoal lighter fluid that was a store brand. when the can was almost empty, i popped off the cap and saw the logo of an expensve brand on the inside of the can. this is true of all store brands. i buy the cheap stuff.

First of all, there can be different grades.
Kind of like the "Irregular" stuff at outlets,
the difference between Honda and Acura-
actually, no, if there were two lower grades made by Honda, and the lowest stuff is less refined than the lower.
Also
WAL-MART is KILLING American economics, and I've joined the boycott bandwagon!
