I'm getting married on July 28 of this year. We're not having a meal during the reception, but we will be having finger foods. I'm mainly just looking for food ideas; suggestions of games, songs, etc.

Also, if anyone knows the proper etiquitte (I know that's spelled wrong) that would be great! What I'm talking about is, the bride and groom are dancing, Dad breaks in, the groom dances with ____, etc. (Dumb question. My grandmother made me promise I'd find out. Haha)

Thanks for all your help!

Should be your first dance together before anyone else dances
Next you can do a father/daughter dance, but dad should not "break in" on your husband & you dancing (bad, bad, bad)
Groom can dance with his mom AFTER the alone daddy/daughter dance. Then whomever and wait a little while for the dollar dance.
Short answer is this: It's your wedding do it the way you want

As far as food, finger sandwiches, shrimp, water chestnuts wrapped with bacon; sweedish meatballs, etc etc

Well maybe it is because I don't like to dance or maybe it has been because I have been to a wedding where there was no alcohol or dancing but I don't see this as a huge deal. I think if possible you should have some background music. I think what makes a dance less reception better is that the guests talk to each other more and the bride and groom get the chance to talk to everyone that came. I think it would be cool if you could go around and get a picture snapped of you and your spouse with everyone that came. This gives them one on one with you and a great keepsake of them at your wedding. If you do the cake cutting and the flower bouquet toss with toasts I think it will be full enough. Congrats and I hope you have a wonderful wedding.

A lot of what you ask depends on your guests. Wine, beer, and cold drinks are good for the drinks. Your local store can probably prepare veggie plates, meat plates, and petite sandwiches. Crackers and cheeses are good and if you want something hot get chicken wings. Don't forget the cheap champagne for the toast to the bride and groom.

Trust me. When your dad cuts in to dance with you many women will ask your hubby to dance. He should try to dance with an elder lady on your side of the family first. It will do wonders to cement the family relationships. Your grandmother will be a great place to start.

Have a wonderful wedding and a happy life. Congratulations!

I don't think Dad should break in when bride&groom are dancing. There should be a 'special' dance later on for Daughter & Father.

If Dad must break in the dance, the groom should dance either with his mom or new mother in law.

play games like you used to when your were little. blind man's bluff is always fun, maybeif you twist the objectives of the games some, it will be fun for adults too. my favortie game, that i plan on having is based off the Palio Race from italy...basically it's a race where the contestants are piggy back, and you have a group of teams, and whoever makes it the furthest without falling, or whoever gets to the finish line first wins. it sounds like fun to me. there's also a good one i read about tat would make a good way to pass time between events. everyone is sitting, standing whatever, and there is a parcel( layers of fabric with either treats or dares in each layer...usually enough layers for everyone attending to at least get one treat) that gets passed around the guests, whenever the music stops, the person holding it must unwrap a layer. if they have a treat, good for them, if they get a dare (like sinign, or reciting a poem, or something similar) they have to perform it in front of the others. it just keeps going until the parcel is gone. sounded kind of like a good way to apss time at the dinner table... just do whatever you thinm is fun!! think back to games that kept you amused at camp, or college orientation, or whatever. good luck!!

I don't think you need games at your wedding. Just hire a really good DJ and people will start dancing and having fun.

His mother...that's the answer. You're dancing, Dad breaks in and your new husband dances with his mother.
