For the same r eason troops do rigorous training in general - to condition their bodies, and their muscles in particular in preparation for a time when it may be a matter of life and death for them to be able to perform at a peak level of activity.
Members of the military can be compared to atheletes who must train regularly to remain in top physical condition. Use it, or lose it. Unless an athelete trains constantly he or she will not be able to meet the challenges when it comes to the moment they have to pit their abilities against heavy odds.
