They need a reason, but any will do.
Your dog is lose on the street or no tags is enough of a reason.

Not sure what you are asking. If you are asking can Animal Control take a dog from your property for no reason then no, they cant take your dog. There has to be some kind of ordinance or law that is being broke for them to take your dog. It is your right to know what the citation or charges are, so ask.
If you are asking can you take a dog to the pound cuz you don't want it anymore, and will they take it for no reason, it depends on the pound. Some are so over run with dogs that they will not take them just because you are tired of them. Others will take them cuz they know if they don't the dog will be abandoned somewhere and suffer or become a nuisance. So you have to ask the Pound.

Are you sure that it was the dog pound? I have never heard of animal control being called because of a fire, if it was the fire department was it really the fire department or someone who said they were. It all sounds funky to me. Did the animal control tell you from what shelter they were from? If it was the fire department they would have no reason to take your dogs, that is the responsibility of animal control. If you were given no reason or if you have asked around after the fact and still have been given no reason it sounds as if your dogs have been stolen.

A dog pound cannot take a dog for no reason, and it wouldn't make sense for them to do so. They have a tough enough time adopting out the dogs they can that need help without running around looking for more work and expense for themselves. If anyone tells you that their dog was taken for "no reason," I suspect that they've left a few key details out of the story.

You foolishly let them take your dog. Too bad you should have said NO way. Only a court action can take your dog without your permission. Some misguided fire fighter doesn't have the authority unless you were neglegent in causing the fire and harming the animal.

They would never just take a dog, for no reason. If there is a risk of any kind, that effects or may effect the well being of the dogs, then they have every right to take them away.

I wouldn't think so, but I need more details. If the animal is safely on your property and being cared for properly I don't see a reason. If it is running around the neighborhood, unattended I can see a reason. Many communities have leash laws for the pets safety as well as the safety of others.

Yes...but they usually want to know what is wrong so they can inform future potential adopters.
Or did you have your dog picked up? If it was barking, no license , running loose or bit someone. I don't think they pick up dogs for no reason unless someone complained and you didn't know about it.
ADDED: It wasn't your fault that happened! I think they probably though you had to stay at a hotel and were thinking they were doing you a favor..

They wouldn't have taken the dogs for no reason. Were you caring for them properly?
It sounds like the animal control officer saw/suspected abuse or neglect when the fire dept came to your house.

If you love your dogs. Try to find them, or else they might be put to sleep. Pounds can only take care of so many animals.
