There are several products out there and they are basically a base of wax with some additives. The cheapest solutiion is to put vaseline on their paws before you go out or just as you leave the house (you don't want vaseline pawprints all over your house)

Be sure to wipe the pads every time you bring him in from the outside because salt used to treat streets and sidewalks can destroy them.

If the peeling gets bad, you might need to take him to the vet.

also for small tears, get some Nu SKin (available near the bandaids at most drug stores) It's Liquid Bandage and it really helps the skin heal. If there's a large tear it may need a stitch or two.

You can buy special paw wax, that conditions them as well as making them smooth.
Try your local good pet shop.

put vasoline on those paws. Thats what I have to do to my dog.
