For some people the process is quick, where as for others (including some of my European relatives in the 90's) it can take months to years just to get a visa. Some degrees are also not recognized right away in Canada from certain countries. In Vancouver, for example, I have met Asian doctors and engineers whose degrees are not recognized, so they have to work as cab drivers and those type of jobs.
