Swallowing any coin has its dangers, but pennies especially. If they were older pennies (made with more copper to metal equivalent) then it could cause problems. The stomach acid breaks down certain metals (such as copper) faster than other metals, therefore causing toxic chemicals to be possibly released into the system. I would consult the doctor, or the national poison control center to find out more information.

If he only swallowed one or two they will probably just pass. They may hurt when they pass but they will pass. However, I would take the child in for an xray because you don't know how many were swallowed. If the child swallowed too many it could probably be dangerous.

My nephew passed a shooter marble - intact!

She just needs to call the pediatrician. Kids pass coins all the time.

If it gets lodged in the stomach, it can be dangerous. It should pass within 2 days, if it doesn't she needs to call the doctor.

Most of the time they pass and it is harmless, but I would suggest taking him to the doctor, just to be safe.

well 1, if he didnt choke on them, step one is clear....call the doctor and tell them, they will more than likely want to do an exam and xray...but more than likely they will pass...it wont be the last thing that he swallows that he shouldnt!

She should pass them... I remember hearing about a girl who swallowed a safety pin when she was 3 years old and didn't feel the prick until she turned 16

hopefully he chokes and dies. maybe you guys should actually be watching your children rather than letting them swallow pennies. what do you do all day, smoke crack and trick yourselves out? grow up, its a child. nows the time to grow a brain, if at all possible
