Someone else on YA said it better than I can. They said if you hold onto the pain or hurt someone inflicted on you, then you are allowing that person to live rent-free in your head. It's hard to let go, but so much better to detach emotionally from a painful past and move on. The only things you have any measure of control over are the present and the future. The past is set and cannot be changed. So you have to start at this point, make a plan, and try to stick to it the best you can. Evict the painful memories from your head.
That's what it means to me.

You can grow in all other sorts of directions, but that growth is useless if your wrist is handcuffed to the cage you've been in all this time.
Unfortunately, some of us have not been given the keys, and even if we're out, we don't knwo what else to do with ourselves.
So, the idea is to REPLACE some thoughts with better ones, to learn what to DO differently.

you cant stay stuck in anger for things that happened in your past-you must make peace with it and learn what you can-learn how to not get yourself into those situations that hurt and how to deal with things rationally.how can you focus on the here and now-while hung up on anger that has no where to go.even the worst situations have a certain learning experience to them.Thats why my favorite saying is "if it doesnt kill you it makes you stronger"
