You type in a simple request and get a totally unrelated response. How frustrating is that??

Search engines are nothing more than tools. You get a response that is based on what you typed in. If you want a different response, type in something else. If you're typing in sentences, and expecting the search engine to understand that, stop. All you should do to get the content you're looking for from a search engine is use keywords.

For instance:
"I'm looking for a listing of auto mechanics in my home town of Chicago, Illinois." - is bad, but...

"Auto mechanics, Chicago" is good.

The reason is that if you provide too many things for the search engine, it's hit or miss as to what will be chosen. The engine might go with "I'm looking for" and then you'll get a collection of singles seeking men, or eBay auctions, or any number of things.

I sympathize with you, in that it *can* be frustrating, but after a while, after trying a few related searches, you ought to be able to find just about anything. Good luck to you.

I think it's pretty generous of American search firms to include the Queen's English. They don't have to...they could include only United States English / American English, which is what we read, write and speak. (Not to be confused with illiteracy.)

Perhaps you would like to develop your own search engine? It's not that difficult.

Face it...you don't own the United States. We are separate. When two cultures separate, the language changes. Face it and stop your whining before you turn off more Americans, even the majority that are related to you, and love all things British (especially the people that are not condescending bigots). \0/

The internet is worldwide (hence WWW = world wide web). You won't just find English up here!

They either have totally misunderstood your question or just want to answer something to raise their points or practice their English/American. Of course you want your specific question answered, just ignore the ones that don't relate. This is the internet and you get some lonely people surfing.
