I can ship a car from Bahrain back to stateside without paying tax, but is it worth since anything you buy here is tax free? Please advice

Sell it there. Put the cash into a paypal type, online account that isn't taxed. Buy another car with the proceeds, once you get to the USA.

I guess it depends on:

a) the value of the vehicle

b) the amount it would cost to ship it

c) any non-cash related value the car may have.

If you could sell it, and buy another one here for less than it would cost to have it shipped. Then do that. Otherwise, get it shipped.

If you have spent a lot of money working on the car (but don't think that anyone else would really see the extra value) or it has sentimental value (I'm pretty attached to my '65 mustang), then you should probably have it shipped if it isn't ridiculously expensive.

NO NO NO NO it will be a grey market car. Does not comply with USA safety regulations. Has a $0 resale value. A dealer can not even sell this car because it does not comply with safety standards. You would have to disclose this or you will be sued.

It may not meet the emissions standards of the state you plan on bringing it to. You should check into that as well. Also, availability of parts, etc.
